To Michigan
State University to continue monitoring a bioreactor landfill
cell to quantify its air and water emissions. The construction of
the 1.5-acre bioreactor cell occurred in summer 2001 (under a
$500,000 grant from EREF); installation of monitoring equipment and
filling of the bioreactor was completed in February 2003.
Monitoring is currently taking place.

To the Environmental
Industry Associations (EIA) (in conjunction with a
renewed Susan B. Harwood Training Grant from the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA)) to develop a training video for
solid waste employers and employees on how to reduce injuries and
fatalities at solid waste facilities, as well as conducting an
education session at Waste Expo in May 2005 on the principles of
safety and the prevention of fatalities. Completion of this
project is scheduled for September 2005.

To the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) to develop a
body of knowledge, a training course, and a certification
examination for managers of bioreactor landfills. This program
will be added to SWANA's existing educational program for managers
of municipal solid waste landfill operations. The course
should be completed and given for the first time in June 2005. Go

To the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the
development of an internet-based municipal solid waste decision
support tool (DST) for North America. Project completion is
scheduled for winter 2005.
