FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 23, 2003:
Environmental Research and Education Foundation
Awards $60,000 Alexandria, Va. - During its spring
meeting held on April 11 in Orlando, Fla., the Environmental
Research and Education Foundation's The ITRC Alternative Landfill Technologies Team
will collect, compile, evaluate, and report on the design,
construction, and operational areas referred to as Alternative
Landfill Technologies and any real or perceived regulatory
barriers. These include alternative landfill covers,
bioreactors and innovative approaches to post-closure
care. The Guidance, when utilized, will streamline the
state acceptance and deployment of these technologies and
techniques. This project will support another
EREF project being performed by GeoSyntek Consultants that is
developing a performance-based system for post-closure care at
municipal solid waste landfills. The GeoSyntek project will be
developing a new approach to the current 30-year time-based
system required currently under federal regulations. The
Environmental Research and Education Foundation is an
independent public charity; its funding base is derived from
donations from corporations and individuals who are committed
to EREF's mission to develop environmental solutions for the
future. For more complete information on EREF, go to its
