Environmental
Research and Education Foundation to
Washington,
D.C. - On June 26, 2001, the Environmental Research and
Education Foundation (EREF) will bestow its first "Environmentalist
of the Year" Award upon Earth Force, a national non-profit
based in Alexandria, Virginia. The purpose of this annual gala
event is to recognize individual or organizational achievement
in developing environmental solutions for the future. Earth
Force will receive a cash award of $50,000, and the Honorable
Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, has
been invited to attend. Other invited guests are Energy Secretary
Spencer Abraham and EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman.
According to Ronald McCracken, Chairman of EREF, "This
black tie, invitation only event will include legislators, chief
executive officers, spouses and guests from U.S. and European
waste service companies, senior executives from corporations
that support the activities of the honoree Earth Force, and
representatives from the financial community." It will
be held at The Ronald Reagan Building, Washington, DC. Allied
Waste Industries of Scottsdale, Arizona will sponsor the dinner
and recording artist Crystal Gayle accompanied by her band will
provide the evening's entertainment.
"The
Environmentalist of the Year Award will become a coveted and
sought after recognition," says Michael J. Cagney, EREF
President. "It will receive international acclaim and bring
significant visibility to the vital work performed by my foundation."
The foundation's mission is to develop environmental solutions
for the future through research and education, and its endowment
provides the financial base for a sustainable series of significant
projects and scholarships.

while developing life-long habits of active citizenship and
