SCS Engineers Chairman Elected to
Chairman of Environmental Research and Education Foundation

Alexandria, Va. - Robert P. Stearns, P.E., DEE, was elected on December 11, 2003 to Chairman of the Board of the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) based in Alexandria, Virginia.  Mr. Stearns' election to Chairman is for a one-year term; he served as EREF's Vice Chairman in 2003, as Secretary-Treasurer in 2001 and 2002, and has been a member of the board since 1999.

Mr. Stearns was a co-founder of SCS Engineers in 1970 and currently serves as the firm’s Chairman.  He is a diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and former president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Los Angeles Section. Mr. Stearns has also served as a board and committee member of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and the National Solid Wastes Management Association (NSWMA).

He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving a BS in Civil Engineering and an MS in Engineering Management from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a registered professional engineer in the states of California, Virginia and Ohio.

SCS Engineers, founded in 1970 and headquartered in Long Beach, California, has been providing a wide range of environmental services to the public and private sectors since 1970. Their primary areas of practice include solid waste and hazardous waste management, remediation, landfills, recycling, and environmental assessments.

The Environmental Research and Education Foundation is the only independent foundation in the U.S. committed to research, education and science relative to the treatment of municipal solid waste.
