Project: Defining the end of post-closure care at municipal solid waste landfills (grant year 2002).
Update: August 2004 - A draft version of post-closure care is in process and discussions are underway with the U.S. EPA; the project should be completed by spring 2005.

Project: Long-Term study of leachate sampling and characterization (grant year 2002).
Update: August 2004 - Data continues to be received for statistical analysis; details are not yet available. The project should be completed by spring 2005.
Project: To collect and test municipal solid waste landfill gas as generated and after combustion (grant year 2000).
Update: August 2004 - The draft Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) was developed and finalized in the winter of 2001-2002. The first sampling event took place during the summer of 2002. Two Eastern U.S. sites have already been tested; researchers will test other sites located in the U.S. Midwest by January 2003. Approximately eight U.S. municipal solid waste landfills are having their pre- and post-combustion gas sampled and analyzed for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), heavy metals, and dioxin and furans. Testing is expected to be completed by late 2003 and the data is expected to be available by summer 2005.
